"make it easy to input other codecs if necessary" is a nice suggestion, although most codecs come with an installer.

About including other codecs -
Not all codecs are needed, and the install center installs only open source codecs.
When introducing other codecs, they could potentially interfere with the existing ones.
We encourage users NOT to install other codecs, as they are not needed for playback of any file type.

Apparently, other codecs can be entered by using the smart play profiles :)
